Google Realtime Timeline

Was doing a search for Detroit on Google Realtime and noticed that the timeline can be scrolled. This means you can see what the topic was that spiked activity at that time. Detroit is a rather common word and has frequent activity posted. It looks like there were two small spikes after 6 PM and another at what looks like 11 PM.

See image below. You can try the Detroit search here.

Google Realtime Timeline

*Perhaps I should have done a screenshot of one of the spiking periods for analysis.

MINI TWEETUPS: IT STARTS WITH ONE

Tweetups are gatherings of peeps [people] who tweet [use Twitter]. Using tools such as Facebook etc has made them quite popular. This popularity has lead to strong and growing attendance [see Detroit Tweetups]. Even when an event is not actively promoted, 15 people show up. That is rather impressive.

When group size becomes large the effectiveness of the group declines. Connections are not as strong as they might be. One might even argue that they are weak. In any case, late last year a few of us were discussing how big the attendance was for recent tweetups [100+ attendees]. At that point we began to meet at a coffee shop under the premise of doing smaller scale tweetups [aka: a mini tweetup].

It is time to launch that idea again. There should be mini tweetups all over a large metro area such as we have around Detroit, MI. Other places are welcome to launch their own events. There should be events every day  of the week. Collaboration on ideas is powerful. The network effect will connect people to the resources they need. Resources are best connected in smaller groups where trust can be built. It is also critical for needs, known and unknown to be uncovered. Some people need things and don’t yet know it. In a small group setting these can better be unearthed.

The hashtag I’ll be using for mini tweetups is #mtweetup. The m stands for mini. As a suggestion it is a good idea to keep group size below 8. Even 7 might be too many. If the number of attendees becomes too large, consider breaking the group apart. Move to two places at the location of any events. Perhaps one group could relocate to a second place. This will will expose more people and businesses to Twitter, people and the events that are happening.

LOCAL AD FROM A NATIONAL WEBSITE

LA Times Ad

Saw this a few minutes ago. It is not too often that an ad on a national website captures my attention for a local business [Detroit, MI].

DETROIT STARTUP WEEKEND

IDEAS PUT INTO ACTION

In about four weeks, Startup Weekend will descend on Detroit Michigan. As the state with the highest unemployment rate, Michigan needs a storm of entrepreneurial activity to ignite. Entrepreneurs start with an IDEA then add some secret ingredients. In the process they require specialized knowledge, skills and talents. It is at that point, employees may be added to the business enterprise.

Now more than ever

Now is a great time to start thinking about some ideas that create customers. What does it mean to create customers? Solving consumer needs, wants and desires creates value. The value that is created by a business enterprise is exchanged for money. The more value the firm creates the more potential there is to become an economic force that grows the fortunes of both customers and the the enterprise. This a win-win. In the process, jobs are created and customers are better served. In all of that, the economy grows and expands.

Are you thinking about your IDEA for Startup Weekend already?

Now is the right time. Bring together your own mastermind group. Brainstorm for ideas that solve customer needs, wants and desires. Keep churning the idea each and every day. Use feedback to adjust the product or service you will bring to market.

Why should I do this today?

Better ideas are more likely to hit the spot where customers find value and where contributors see the idea as viable and a mission they want to participate in. This is like a groundswell in such that in will resonate quickly if the message is focused and grounded in reality.

A great way to create a focused and grounded idea is to think about it a lot. Everyday is not too often. Have others join you in these conversations. They can see things you can not. They may uncover issues that would stall or become impassable stumbling blocks.

Tweeetups

If you are interested in exploring some ideas with others, there are few events as powerful as a tweetup. What is a tweetup? A tweetup is a gathering of people that use Twitter.com. You are strongly encouraged to join Twitter as soon as possible if you are interested in Startup Weekend or business in general. It is a powerful and effective way to meet smart people. Many of these folks are knowledge workers. They have the knowledge, skills and talents that are the bridge to success. Meet as many people as you can via tweetups.

What are your thoughts on Startup Weekend or business enterprise?

See the job posting below. Detroit is spelled wrong [see red text]. Details matter. Sloppiness like this would get your resume in the circular file. There will be fewer people pursuing this position because of the misspelling.

Along the Detroit River Walk is the most amazing automated bathroom. It self cleans after each use.

DETROIT TWEETUP

Wow! What a great time with all the folks at the Detroit Tweetup [Detroit Tweetup Network]. So many smart, ambitious and talented people. You will definitely learn a lot from meeting with these folks.

If you are not already there, get on Motor City Connect. Fill out a profile and post a pic. That tells people you are serious about success. No picture says, "I just do the bare minimum." Be the one who does the unexpected and goes the extra mile. Those are the kind of people who get ahead and experiance great success. You want to be successful don't you?

Best guess is that there were between 20 and 30 folks who were at the Detroit Tweetup.

Started at...
Sakana Sushi Lounge
At
22914 Woodward Ave
Ferndale, MI 48220
(248) 336-2555

Super nice folks working there. Fast refills to boot!

After a few hours of conversation a contingent [about 10] of us wandered over to the WAB [Woodward Avenue Brewery]
At
22646 Woodward Ave
Ferndale, MI 48220-1810
Phone: (248) 546-3696

Had more great conversations over beer and food. Very nice waitress too. If you are in the area, check these two places out.

Really looking forward to the next Detroit Tweetup ;)

If you were there, what are your thoughts on the event?

DOWNTOWN DETROIT

Detroit People Mover
in action near Cobo Arena. You can see the Renaissance Center in the background. Look at the big GM logo.

The GM River Days was going on. Since I was on a bicycle it was mostly off limits to me. WOW for what the city of Detroit has done with the River Walk. Very impressed. Might post further thoughts and pictures of the River Walk in the future. Read about it here and here
