Logged into iTunes this evening to sync the iPod and this dialog box appeared. Have never seen anything like this before.
Did Apple just drop AOL screen names?

I got the same message and I had a balance on the account. Sent a message to Apple support. I will let you know the result.
Thanks for the comment. Wondering what you finally hear from Apple support.
I heard back from Apple support last night. I had to change my AOL to another account (I used my yahoo mail). I had to update my credit card info, and then I was able to get into iTunes and my gift card balance was there. I was not able to use my current mobileme account (why I don't know), but this worked for me. I hope that it works for you.
